A broad definition of motion control would be something like
"converting a source of power to move something in a controlled
manner". Therefore this would include pneumatic cylinders,
hydraulics, and electrical motors. Given a certain problem or requirement,
our engineers determine the most cost effective and efficient solution.
For example, moving small, light parts between two points can be accomplished
using a pneumatic
cylinder. Moving a large load is usually a geared electric motor. Moving a
load to one of many different changing positions is a good application for a robot.
We have also used hydraulics in special motion applications, typically mobile
applications.

"Electro-magnetic
engines are constructed either on the principle that the magnet retains its
power only while the current is passing, or that the poles are changed by
reversing the current. They have been made of 8 or 10 horse-power, but
have never become of great practical value, because of the expense of the
battery required to produce the electricity. The zinc which burns in
the cell of the electric-engine is far more expensive than the coal which
burns in the furnace of the steam-engine".

Animatics SmartMotor™ is an
entire servo motion control system in a single component. It combines a
controller, motor drive, encoder, network manager and packs it into the back
of a high quality brushless D.C. Servo Motor.

We try to offer a fair and balanced opinion on every
page of our website. We would appreciate more
information from other motion control, motor and drive users to express their opinions which we will
then incorporate. If you have questions or comments please post them
on our message board (see button in left hand column) so that others can
read and benefit.
